ORIGINAL Artwork
Location: Paris, France
The original pen and ink sketch, which I personally removed from my sketchbook, trimmed the edges, and float mounted in a natural wood frame.
Les Halles has long been a central gathering place in Paris, once known as the city’s great food market and now transformed into a modern hub of shopping, transit, and culture. Its sweeping glass canopy draw you in from far away with its modern form. As you approach and enter the space, the underground corridors reflect the city’s history and the space’s evolution. Les Halles began as a medieval market in the 12th century, grew into the city’s central food market known as the “Belly of Paris,” and was transformed in 1971 to make way for the modern hub.
I drew an initial concept sketch from the side of this path, watching streams of people flow in and out beneath the canopy. When I returned home to my studio I drafted the complex architecture and collaged different sets of people walking through until I got the composition right and created this final piece.
Les Halles was hand-drawn with a black ink pen and water on Bristol Paper.
The drawing is ___”x___” and float mounted in an 16″x20″ frame.
A hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity is included in the back of the frame.
